Wine in Black riesling uit Erste Lage-pakket

Anyone who usually finds the acidity of dry riesling a bit much should be a happy camper with this wine. Brimming with a fresh fruit salad of aromas, juicy and supple, it is also wonderfully refreshing and has a tingling spritz of natural carbon dioxide that lifts the juicy finish. Drink or hold.

For a village wine this is compact and powerful but beautifully balanced. The interplay of wild herb and berry character with the stone fruit aromas plus the stony freshness is intense, but somehow elegant. Properly dry finish with a texture like crushed rock.

The 2022 Nierstein Riesling 1G opens with a deep, clear, ripe and elegant nose with fine mineral expression and herbal notes. Juicy yet very fine and lively on the palate, this is a saline, fresh and structured Niersteiner with a persistent mineral soul and grip. The fruit was pressed as whole clusters; however, there is this typical HO Spanier grip and reduction that needs some handling (aeration) to become more gentle. Tasted at the domaine in July 2023.

The 2023 Riesling Nierstein was picked in the mid-slope of Pettenthal (the fruit that is not used for the GG). Beautiful savor of crushed yarrow and herb oil precedes apple crunchiness on the nose. The palate is light and bone-dry yet fluid. That lovely ripeness of Riesling tingles with zestiness and rings with peppery spice on the finish.

This astonishing wine has gigantic flinty and citrusy complexity next to the deep stone fruit character. Incredible concentration for a non-GG dry German riesling. Everything fits beautifully on the full-bodied palate. Off-the-scale power and energy in the finish, but everything remains fine and precise.
