Proefnotitie
De wijn is intens robijn-granaatrood met violette reflecties en het complexe bouquet toont zwarte bessen, bramen en donkere kersen, begeleid door tonen van drop, cederhout, tabak, grafiet en fijne specerijen. Met wat lucht ontvouwen zich daarnaast florale accenten en elegante rooktonen. In de mond presenteert de wijn zich krachtig en diep, met geconcentreerd donker fruit, een precieze mineraliteit en fijnmazige, rijpe tannines. De knisperende zuren geven spanning en balans en de lange finale overtuigt met ziltige, kruidige en minerale nuances. Een grote bordeaux met enorme klasse en decennialang rijpingspotentieel.
Lekker bij: entrecote van de houtskoolgrill, gestoofde reerug of ossenhaas met truffeljus.

The 2019 Montrose is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. Rich, inky and towering in concentration, the 2019 possesses off the charts intensity and tons of structure to back it up. Succulent black cherry, plum, tobacco, gravel and licorice infuse the 2019 with striking depth. The 2019 is not quite as opulent as some recent vintages, and that's a good thing. Readers will find a regal wine that marries elegance with power. Unforgettable. Tasted two times.

A generous and abundant nose full of fruit and aromatic intensity followed by a gorgeous mouthfeel showcasing fruit density and concentration wrapped up in soft, velvety-smooth tannins. Just so much depth but also refinement here, it feels well made with just the right amount of fruit, toasty spice, tannins, freshness and acidity. The overall structure is gently framing all the elements - big and bold but quietly confident. The tannin impact is also enjoyable giving a feeling of approachability despite the long life ahead. Just superb - one of the best in 2019. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. 12% press wine. 60% new oak.

De grote drie: pizza, hamburger, steak. Doet het ook goed bij streetfoodfavorieten zoals pulled pork.
De wijn
De druiven voor deze wijn van Château Montrose komen uit de topwijngaarden van Saint-Estèphe, dicht bij de Gironde, waar kiezel en klei de bodems karakteriseren. De jaargang 2019 werd perceel voor perceel geoogst en elke partij werd afzonderlijk gevinifieerd, om het karakter van de afzonderlijke terroirs zo precies mogelijk naar voren te brengen. In totaal ontstonden er meer dan 80 afzonderlijke vinificatiepartijen, die later zorgvuldig werden geassembleerd. De opvoeding vindt traditioneel plaats in Franse eikenhouten vaten, waardoor de wijn extra diepte, structuur en zijn enorme bewaarpotentieel krijgt. De cuvée bestaat uit cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc en petit verdot.
