Proefnotitie
De 'Ried Hochsteinriegl' is lichtstrogeel van kleur met groene en zilveren reflecties. In de neus ontplooit hij een complex, uitnodigend bouquet, met aroma’s van kruisbessen, cassis, passievrucht, grapefruit, abrikozen en kruiden. In de mond is de wijn gelaagd en persistent, met tonen van geel, groen en wit fruit, plantaardig-kruidige toetsen, een speels zuurtje, een uitgesproken mineraliteit en een stevige, sappige, zeer lange afdronk.

This Steiermark sauvignon blanc stuns with its brilliance, purity and delicacy. Yes, there are some red-berry fruit notes, but this is a radically mineral and super-elegant wine for this grape that is often loudly tutti-frutti. Staggering wet-stone character in the superlong finish. Vegan. Sustainable.

The 2022 Ried Hochsteinriegl GSTK Sauvignon Blanc is surprisingly refined and pure for such a hot vintage. The nose is intense and unyielding like the Sausal slate, with fine notes of apricot jam and a hint of wood accompanying the terroir salt. Rich and quite opulent on the palate, with lots of fruit and a rather loud appearance, this is a mouth-filling Sauvignon with remarkable finesse and acidity, as well as an unyielding length, which is the most spectacular thing about this young Sauvignon, and it should carry the wine through the years and decades. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork.

Yellow-green with a silver sheen. Fine smoky notes, finely spiced, a hint of guava, a touch of passion fruit, hints of fresh lime, lemon balm. Tightly-knit, mineral, sweet pineapple, a dark minerality, lingers for a very long time, complex, a discreet spiciness in the aftertaste, strong ageing potential.

De klassieker: quiche lorraine! Combineert ook goed met stevige gerechten zoals eend, aromatische zachte kaas of licht pikante curry’s.
De wijn
De individuele wijngaard (Ried) Hochsteinriegl is een op het zuiden gelegen, extreem steile wijngaard op een hoogte van 400 tot 540 meter. De bodem wordt gekenmerkt door rode leisteen. De druiven werden zeer laat met de hand geoogst en streng geselecteerd. Na een korte maceratieperiode werden de druiven voorzichtig geperst, waarna de most met natuurlijke gisten werd gefermenteerd in grote houten vaten. De wijn rijpte vervolgens 18 maanden op de droesem.
