De diepdonkerrode kleur met zwarte reflecties maakt meteen indruk en ook de complexe geur is indrukwekkend: zwarte bessen, bramen, pruimen en kersen zijn waarneembaar, begeleid door kruiden, donkere chocolade en eucalyptus. In de mond is de ‘VIK Valle de Cachapoal’ diep, compact en lang aanhoudend, met tonen van rijp donker fruit, aardse en geroosterde specerijen, harmonieuze tannines, fijne, verkwikkende zuren, minerale toetsen en een sappige, krachtige, lange afdronk.

The 2021 Vik is a blend of 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon from Millahue in the Cachapoal Valley. It was aged for 26 months in barrels and 10% in amphorae. This dark garnet-red wine exudes aromas of blackberry and raspberry, complemented by notes of ash, boldo, bay leaf, and undergrowth, all set against a backdrop of cedar. On the palate, it is dry, delicate, and finely grained, with a juicy and vibrant mouthfeel that differs from the oxidative, tired style of the past. With Carménère now excluded and the increased proportion of Franc, the wine has lost its previously clinging and robust character. Intense graphite with fresh lavender, thyme, rosemary and blackcurrant notes. Hints of decadence. Iodine and mussel undertones. Full-bodied with superb intensity and silky tannins that grow on the palate, showing great length that goes on for minutes. Truly great depth. 77% cabernet franc and 23% cabernet sauvignon. Best ever. 4,800 cases made. This needs five to seven years to come together. Drink from 2029.

De wijn
Deze cuvée bestaat voor 76% uit cabernet sauvignon en voor 24% uit cabernet franc. De druiven zijn afkomstig van verschillende terroirs (kalk, zand, kiezel) in de Valle de Cachapoal en worden selectief met de hand geoogst. De druivensoorten worden apart gevinifieerd en gisten 16 tot 35 dagen bij een temperatuur onder de 30 graden op de schillen. Daarna volgt een rijping van 23 maanden in nieuwe Franse barriques, inclusief malolactische gisting. Ten slotte wordt de assemblage samengesteld uit de basiswijnen.
