Proefnotitie
In de diepdonkerrode kleur dansen ook zwarte reflecties en het geconcentreerde bouquet verspreidt aroma’s van zwarte bessen, bramen, bosbessen en pruimen, hints van specerijen, tabak, mokka en kruiden. In de mond presenteert de ‘Opus One’ zich krachtig, complex en met een blijvende indruk op de tong. Hij toont smaken van rijp donker fruit, aardse en geroosterde kruiden, harmonieuze tannines, fijne zuren, minerale toetsen en een volle, sappige, ronde en lange afdronk.

Generous, with savory aromas of ripe blackcurrants and fresh black cherries and a gentle texture that shows a slight nip of tannin. It is well structured and a bit tight, which is normal for a young cabernet sauvignon-based red that’s a proven collectible. Gives up graphite and pencil shavings, some cocoa and espresso. Full-bodied. Spicy, toasty oak is really showing through right now. Best from 2028.

I was also able to taste a sample of the 2022 Opus One. While from a challenging vintage, this will have plenty to love and reveals a vivid purple hue, bright, spicy red and blue fruits, some classic Cabernet tobacco, graphite, and floral nuances, medium to full body, soft tannins, and terrific purity. It's going to be a plush, sexy Opus One that will shine right out of the gate.

De wijn
Robert Mondavi en Baron Philippe de Rothschild deelden de visie van een perfecte Napa Valley-cuvée, die Californische kracht combineert met Franse elegantie. De druiven voor de ‘Opus One’ komen uit de wijngaarden van Oakville. De jaargang 2022 bestaat voor 80% uit cabernet sauvignon, aangevuld met 8% petit verdot, 6,5% cabernet franc, 5% merlot en 0,5% malbec. De maceratie duurt ongeveer 20 dagen, waarna de wijn 18 maanden rijpt in nieuwe Franse eikenhouten vaten.
