Proefnotitie
De ‘Pontet-Canet’ 2020 is een grootse wijn in wording. Hij maakt nu nog een erg jeugdige indruk, en dat is hij ook voor een bordeaux. Wat betreft kleur en bouquet doet hij denken aan een cuvée uit Pauillac en Côte-Rôtie. Hij toont intense aroma's van moerbeien, cassis, pruimen, bramen en bosbessen, kersen en vijgen. Het fruit wordt verrijkt met vleugjes pioenroos en viooltjes, hints van kruiden en specerijen. In de mond vermengt deze potpourri van complexe tonen zich met korrelige, langzaam zachter wordende tannines die het rijpe fruit omhullen. Het is een pauillac met diepgang, die gelaagd over de tong rolt. Geweldig!

Aromas of blackcurrants and black cherries with hints of crushed walnuts, grilled thyme, cocoa powder and graphite. It’s full-bodied with layers of ultra-fine, silky tannins that elegantly coat your palate, allowing the juicy and vibrant fruit to shine. Delicate and pristine, yet compact with lots of energy and power to uncover in the coming years. It lasts for minutes and is delicious now. The purity of fruit is really impressive. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. 50% new oak 15% old oak and 35% concrete amphorae. Try after 2027.

The flagship from this estate, the 2020 Château Pontet-Canet is a beauty based on 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 50% new oak, with 35% in amphora. Deep purple-hued with a great nose of dark currants, plums, tobacco leaf, and truffly earth, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless mouthfeel and a great finish. The higher Merlot content here really shows in its overall sexy, supple, seamless style, and while this already offers pleasure, it's going to be one for the ages as well.

The 2020 Pontet-Canet is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, aging in 50% new French oak barriques, 35% concrete amphorae and 15% in one-year-old barrels. Harvest began on the 14th September for the Merlot, and the final lot of Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested on 30th September.
Opaque purple-black in color, it needs significant aeration and swirling to coax out evocative notes of black cherry preserves, raspberry pie, blackcurrant pastilles and damp soil, before launching into gorgeous floral and spice notions of red roses, cinnamon stick, star anise and cardamom, with a waft of crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a lot of depth and polish, delivering mouth-coating red and black fruits with loads of fragrant earth and floral sparks, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral tinged. This is a singular, fascinating expression of the vintage and highly recommended!

De wijn
Pontet-Canet produceert een van de meest spannende en expressieve cru-wijnen in de Bordeaux. Dit is niet alleen te danken aan het uitstekende terroir. Het wijnhuis werkt al jarenlang biodynamisch en het gebruikt niet langer uitsluitend nieuw hout (50%), maar ook gebruikt hout (15%) en amfora's (35%). Het domein is met zijn werk altijd al een pionier in de regio geweest en is dat vandaag de dag nog steeds.
