Proefnotitie
Weinig interventie en biodynamische bewerking in de steile wijngaard zorgen hier voor een groot en complex karakter. De riesling verleidt in de neus met rijpe peer, perzik, gist en wat stuifmeel en aarde. In de mond opent hij zich, wordt vol en rond, sappig en zijdeachtig. Hij charmeert met intens fruit, veel citroen, zeer fijne tannine en fenolen, pittig bittere hints van citroenschil en een diepe, dynamische mineraliteit in de lange afdronk. Wat een sensatie!

The 2020 Riesling Schreck is from Stein’s steepest site on mica schist. It is subdued on the nose, with an earthy veil laid over baked pear. The palate is quite smooth and fruitier, rounder and much juicier than the nose would suggest. That juiciness is framed and pushed forward by bright lemon that expands in an immensely mouth-watering, zesty way, supported by a super-fine web of phenolics. This expands into a starburst of citrus and wills you to take another sip.

Still yeasty after long sur-lie maturation, this has wonderful elegance and silkiness on the sleek palate. At present, you need to go and seek out the peach and floral honey character, but just wait! Very long and intensely mineral finish. Excellent aging potential. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification.

Medium green yellow, silver reflections. Fine yellow tropical fruit, fresh peach, a touch of pineapple, candied orange zest, delicate saffron. Juicy, elegant, silky texture, fine fruit sweetness, fresh acidity, mineral-lemon, a touch of honey on the finish, shows length, has good certain ageing potential.

De klassieker: quiche lorraine! Combineert ook goed met stevige gerechten zoals eend, aromatische zachte kaas of licht pikante curry’s.
De wijn
Deze riesling komt uit de Steiner Schreck, waar torenwachters vroeger de druivendieven lieten schrikken. De steile wijngaard met meer dan 60 jaar oude wijnstokken ligt op 320 meter. Hij wordt gekenmerkt door glimmerlei met een kleine humuslaag. Na 36 uur maceratie op de droesem werd de wijn spontaan vergist en doorliep ook een malolactische gisting.
