Proefnotitie
In het glas glinstert de 'Sauvignon Blanc Ried Edelschuh' in een licht geelgroen met zilverachtige nuances. In het complexe, rijpe bouquet gaan tonen van licht steenfruit en kruisbessen samen met toetsen van bloesem, rook en mineralen. Op de tong vallen volheid en souplesse op en een decent zoete toets. Het spannendst is het complexe spel van het rijpe, kruidige fruit en de elegant-koele citrustonen en leisteen-mineraliteit. De wijn maakt indruk met aanzienlijke diepte, lengte en bewaarpotentieel.

Light greenish yellow, silver reflections. Initially still a bit shy, fine stone fruit tones, a touch of ringlet, ripe gooseberries, delicate smoky nuances, opens with air. Juicy, elegant, fine fruit sweetness, a touch of mango, lively structure, salty-lemon, dances on the tongue, a finesse-rich food companion with enormous ageing potential.

An enormously complex sauvignon blanc that needs a bit of aeration to display its extremely fine Amalfi-lemon, oolong-tea and chamomile aromas. Super-concentrated, with an extremely fine-grained tannin structure. From 40 to at least 70-year-old vines, totaling 0.75 ha. Limited production.

From an extremely steep (90% slope) site at 465 to 530 meters in altitude on red as well as dark slate, the 2021 Ried Edelschuh Sauvignon Blanc GSTK is higher than ever in terms of acidity (7.5 grams per liter) and has enormous extract. Bottled with no residual sugar, the wine opens with a deep and intense nose of ripe and elegant fruit aromas intertwined with flinty aristocratic slate and iodine notes. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, intense and concentrated, fully dry yet rich Sauvignon with ripe and elegant acidity that leads to a long, refined and saline finish. The wine was aged on its full lees for one year without added sulfur and for another five months on its fine lees. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the Zieregg in May 2023 and in Grafenegg in September 2023.

De wijn
De druiven in Ried Edelschuh komen van deels tot 70 jaar oude wijnstokken en groeien op extreem steile hellingen op ca. 460-530 m hoogte op rode en zwarte leisteen. De schrale bodem dwingt de stokken om heel diep te wortelen, wat een markante aromatische concentratie en mineraliteit van de wijn tot gevolg heeft. Voor de 'Sauvignon Blanc Ried Edelschuh' wordt zo laat mogelijk handmatig geoogst en er wordt streng geselecteerd. Na een korte maceratie volgt de langzame, behoedzame persing. In grote houten vaten vindt de spontane gisting plaats, hier rijpt de wijn vervolgens 18 maanden op de gist.
