Proefnotitie
De groengeel glanzende riesling 2020 uit de Steiner Pfaffenberg opent met een delicate rokerig-minerale toets die zich snel verbindt met groene en gele aroma's van citrus, reine-claudes en steenfruit. De wijn is vanaf het begin kruidig, sappig en mineraal en toont in de mond een indrukwekkende zuiverheid en precisie. Daar komen kracht en frisheid bij met een levendig zuurtje en fijne tanninetextuur met veel lengte en een fijn geconcentreerd zoetje in de charmante afdronk.

Medium greenish yellow, silver reflections. Delicate smoky-minerality underlaid with yellow peach fruit, a hint of greengage, dark spice, fine tangerine zest. Juicy, nuances of white stone fruit, finesse-rich, fresh acidity, fine sweetness on the finish, shows great length, has ageing potential.

Tons of bergamot and yellow grapefruit with touches of mint and parsley make quite a statement on the nose. Firm and stony, this is pretty radical on the tightly focused palate, which needs time to unwind. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification.

The 2020 Riesling Pfaffenberg was picked from 40- to 60-year-old vines on Gföhler gneiss. Ripe, almost glowing yellow plum and red-cheeked Mirabelle still show subtle reductive smoke on the nose. The palate is fluid, compact and somehow as glowingly golden and fruity as the nose, but it is serenely cool and soothing at the same time. This is concentrated and shimmers with zesty intensity around the edges, getting cooler and cooler, divesting that fruit and zooming toward brightness the closer you get to the finish—bone-dry and light, yet quite intense.

De klassieker: quiche lorraine! Combineert ook goed met stevige gerechten zoals eend, aromatische zachte kaas of licht pikante curry’s.
De wijn
De riesling komt van de 370 meter hoge en door Göhler gneis gekenmerkte Steiner Pfaffenberg. De steile wijngaard met 40 tot 60 jaar oude wijnstokken heeft slechts een dunne humuslaag van 20 tot 30 centimeter. Na 36 uur maceratie werd de wijn spontaan vergist en doorliep ook een malolactische gisting.
