Wijngoed Polz produceert al meer dan honderd jaar uitstekende wijnen. Dit komt mede doordat het over een groot aantal geweldige locaties beschikt, waaronder de wijngaarden Hochgrassnitzberg, Obegg en Pössnitzberg, die tot de beste in het zuiden van Stiermarken behoren. Daarnaast zijn de wijnen, sinds de twee broers Erich en Christoph het wijngoed runnen, nog een tikkeltje preciezer en eleganter geworden. Met exclusief handwerk, een strenge selectie en beheer in harmonie met de natuur, creëren ze onafhankelijke en karakteristieke wijnen.

Zo ook de Sauvignon Blanc Ried Pössnitzberg 2018, die is gemaakt van druiven die groeien op kale en sterk kalkrijke grond - de zogenaamde opok. Dit zorgt samen met de grote temperatuurverschillen voor bijzonder intense sauvignon blanc-aroma's. Het Oostenrijkse gastronomische tijdschrift A la Carte bekroonde hem met 94,5 punten. Wat een traktatie!

Falstaff

Light yellow-green, silver reflections. Pineapple, a hint of cassis, subtle lime notes, cool herbal spice. Juicy, fine minerality, graceful acidity, light-footed finish. A salty food wine.

Pétreo comes from selected malbec vines in the highest sectors of the Caliterra Vineyard in La Arboleda, in Colchagua. The wine was barrel-aged for 18 months, and the result is a red that’s deliciously refreshing and full of red fruit and radiant acidity. Caliterra winemaker Rodrigo Zamorano harvests early, giving rise to this superb cherry juice that offers a new vision of malbec—crisp and crunchy like few others in Chile.

Since it is no longer the only wine in the Pétreo range, we now must add the varietal to the name, so here we go with the 2016 Pétreo Malbec. It is from a special part of the vineyard where the soils are different and seem to mark the wines with great freshness and a sense of minerality on the palate. The vines were planted 12 years ago on granite, schist, basalt, quartz and iron soils, and the grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts in clay amphorae from Spain and used oak barrels, where the wine matured for 18 months. This is a special range because the soils are different and the slope is quite protected from the afternoon sun, so the grapes ripen slowly. There is a flinty minerality here that is intermixed with the fresh fruit from the variety and the floral aromas and flavors. It keeps the style of the two previous vintages produced, but it gets a little ahead in the freshness, without a doubt helped by the inherent freshness of the year. It has a balanced, elegant and fresh palate that is also compact and round, without shortcomings

Wie aan Oostenrijkse riesling denkt, denkt automatisch aan de Wachau. Dankzij de Winzer Krems coöperatie komt daar nu echter verandering in. De coöperatie bewijst namelijk dat ook in het Kremsdal beweeglijke en langlevende gewassen kunnen worden geproduceerd. Geen wonder! De Kreuzberg aan de rivier de Krems ligt op een steenworp afstand van de Wachau. Hier heerst dezelfde spanning tussen het Pannonische en het Atlantische klimaat. De primaire rotsbodems zijn ook vrij identiek en de steile wijngaardterrassen vertonen ook overeenkomsten. Maar er is ook een groot verschil. Omdat het Kremstal (nog) niet dezelfde gloeiende reputatie in de wijnwereld heeft als de Wachau, zijn de wijnen veel lager geprijsd. Wat overigens ook snel veranderen kan, want met goud en de Best of Show bij Mundus Vini, 92 punten van Falstaff en zelfs 94 punten van Wine Enthusiast, zal deze riesling reserve binnenkort geen insider tip meer zijn. Daarom, onze tip: bemachtig een fles! Vooral omdat deze wijn ook een ongelooflijk groot bewaarpotentieel heeft!

A subtle sense of fresh lemon zest is tentative on the shy nose. The palate adds a pithier note and gives this a real zesty core. This seems light but is anchored in stone and plenty of citric depth. - Anne Krebiehl MW
